2023 Honda CR-V or HR-V: Which Should You Buy?
2023 Honda CR-V or HR-V: Which Should You Buy?
Both the iconic Honda CR-V and the newer Honda HR-V offer incredible value and reliability for drivers across Ontario. While your driving needs and personal life may impact which of the two models are a better fit for you, one does stand above the other when it comes down to overall value. The CR-V does provide drivers with the best value for all the great features and quality when compared to the HR-V. Explore why the CR-V is your best choice of Honda compact utility vehicles.
Comparing Powertrains
The CR-V has two powertrain options, however the HR-V only has one. The CR-V is powered by a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine connected to a CVT, producing 190 horsepower and 179 lb-ft of torque. The alternative powertrain is a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder Atkinson cycle engine with two electric hybrid motors connected. This engine produces 204 horsepower and 247 pound-feet of torque. The smaller Honda SUV’s only powertrain is a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine mated to a CVT. This engine produces 158 horsepower and 138 pound-feet of torque.
Trim Options
The 2023 Honda HR-V is available in three trim levels: LX, Sport, and EX-L. The 2023 Honda CR-V is available in four trim levels: EX, Sport, EX-L, and Sport Touring. The CR-V loses the lowest LX trim for 2023, giving it a higher starting price and additional amenities.
Fuel Efficiency
Smaller automobiles often get greater gas economy than bigger versions, but that’s not the case when comparing these two Honda SUVs. The HR-V gets 9 city/7.3 highway L/100km in FWD models and 9.4 city/7.8 highway L/100km in AWD vehicles. The hybrid powertrain in the CR-V yields 5.5 city/6.5 highway L/100km for FWD versions and 5.8 city/6.9 highway L/100km for AWD vehicles. The turbocharged powertrain outperforms the HR-V in terms of fuel economy, with 8.4 city/6.9 highway L/100km for FWD models and 8.7 city/7.1 highway L/100km for AWD variants.
Overall Size
This comparison is simpler than the others; the 2023 Honda CR-V is larger than the 2023 Honda HR-V, which translates to more comfort and luggage space. The CR-V has 103.5 cubic feet of passenger capacity, whereas the HR-V has 98.7 cubic feet. The CR-rear V’s cargo room is 39.3 cubic feet, while the HR-cargo V’s area measures 24.4 cubic feet. Aside from that, the new Honda HR-V is wider than the previous model, providing a larger and more comfortable rear passenger room. Having said that, the HR-V still falls short of the CR-V in terms of comfort.
