Check Your Cabin Air Filter

When troubleshooting any issue, it’s important to rule out the easiest to solve problems first. Every modern automotive HVAC system has an air filter to keep bad things out of the passenger cabin. Like any filter, these can get clogged up and require replacement over time. Consult your car, truck or SUV’s owner’s manual to find the location of your cabin air filter. This is a pretty simple repair. It can be done easily and inexpensively at home.

Low Coolant Levels

Not many people know how critical coolant (or antifreeze) is to keeping your vehicle warm in the winter. Not only does antifreeze help dissipate heat from the engine, that heat is drawn off through the heater core to warm up the air that is pumped into the passenger cabin. If there is a coolant leak and the fluid level is low, that could easily cause heating problems.

The first thing you’ll want to do is check the antifreeze dipstick and replace the fluid. Since it is a closed system, check under the vehicle for leaks. If you find a leak, bring your car into the Cambridge Centre Honda Service Department.

Bad Thermostat or Heater Core

The thermostat and heater core are about the most important parts of any heating system in a car, truck or SUV. If the first two troubleshooting tips pass muster, there is probably a problem with one or both of these components. If you have a bad thermostat or heater core, an appointment with one of our expert technicians will be necessary.

The Cambridge Centre Honda Service Department is ready to help you with any service or maintenance need. You can make an appointment with us today for more information.
