“Leveraging Honda fuel cell technology expertise continues to play a critical role in our global goal to achieve carbon neutrality for all products and corporate activities by 2050,” Mamadou Diallo, senior vice president of Auto Sales, American Honda Motor Co. said in a press release “Honda has laid out an electrification strategy leading to 100% zero-emission automobile sales by 2040, including the introduction of both battery-electric and fuel cell electric vehicles like this new CR-V e:FCEV model.”
How Does Honda eFCEV Work?
The existing hybrid vehicles in the Honda lineup still use gasoline-powered internal combustion engines. When the 2025 CR-V eFCEV goes on sale, owners will never need to fill the vehicle with gasoline, instead using hydrogen. The advantage of this system is that there are zero harmful emissions. Instead of exhaust fumes, the only discharge is water vapour.
We have seen Honda fuel cell vehicle technology before. However, over the last several years, the technology has become more affordable, reducing costs by two-thirds.
