WASHINGTON — The 2016 Honda Civic sedan earned the highest five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

On sale now at Honda dealerships, the 2016 Civic sedan received five stars in the front, side and rollover crash tests.

NHTSA has not tested the 2016 Honda Civic coupe.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety said the 2016 Civic sedan earned the 2016 Top Safety Pick+ award, receiving “Good” scores in all Institute crash tests.

Standard safety equipment on the 2016 Civic sedan includes stability control, antilock disc brakes, side airbags, side-curtain airbags and a rearview camera. Starting with the EX sedan trim, a right-side blind spot camera is also standard, as is the HondaLink system, which also includes emergency crash notification.

Standard on Touring and optional on other Civic sedans is the Honda Sensing safety package, which adds adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-departure intervention and forward-collision alert with automatic emergency braking.
